With the development of mold components industry, a lot of friends have difficulty in this problem, that is, how to choose the workblank of mold components. Today we will talk about this. First, let’s have a look at the commonly used workblank types of mold components.
The commonly used workblank types of mold components include casting parts, forging parts, rolled shape, extruding parts, stamping parts, welding parts, powder metallurgy components, injection molding parts and so on. Each type of workblank can have various forming methods. Manufacture of mold components include two stages: workblank forming and cutting process. The former not only has big influence on the latter, but also has an effect on the quality, performance, production cycle and cost of mold components. Therefore, the correct selection of workblank type of mold components and production method is of great significance for mechanical manufacturing.
The choice of workblank type mainly depend on the quality requirements, the structure size and quantity production of mold components. Usually the workblank of convex and concave die choose forging parts, the workblank of mold base and large mold parts choose casting parts, and the workblank of base plate, fixed plate parts choose cutting parts. The workblank got by different methods have different machining allowance, so the machining allowance must be reasonable. If machining allowance is too large, it will waste materials and working hours. And if machining allowance is too small, it cannot guarantee to eliminate surface defects of workblank, even cause waste products. we must give full consideration to the different requirements of material, structure, shape, size, precision and service life etc. As far as possible ensure the quality of mold components machining through the processing equipment to improve production efficiency and reduce cost.
