In the precise structure of injection molds, guide components play a crucial role. Different types of molds are equipped with guide components of various structural shapes. Although these guide posts differ in shape, size, and purpose, their core function is to provide precise guidance for the mold’s movement.
The movement guidance between the moving and fixed halves of an injection mold relies on the precise dimensional fit and relative positional accuracy between the guide components. Only in this way can the moving parts maintain a stable and unobstructed motion during the relative movement and operation. Therefore, the mating surfaces of the guide components must undergo precision machining and have good wear resistance. This ensures that they can withstand the friction and wear during the mold’s long – term and high – intensity operation, guaranteeing the mold’s guiding accuracy and service life.
The manufacturing process of guide components generally follows a certain procedure. First, rough and semi – finish machining are carried out on ordinary machine tools to prepare for subsequent heat treatment. Then, heat treatment is performed to improve the properties of the components. However, heat treatment may cause deformation of the components. So, after heat treatment, precision grinding on a grinding machine is required to eliminate the deformation, improve the dimensional accuracy of the mating surfaces, and reduce the surface roughness. For some guide components with high mating and accuracy requirements, simple grinding on a grinding machine is not enough. The mating surfaces also need to be lapped to meet the required accuracy and surface roughness standards.
Although the shape of guide components is relatively simple, and the manufacturing process does not require complex processes, equipment, or highly advanced manufacturing techniques, their quality has a direct and significant impact on the guiding accuracy of the injection mold and the quality of the molded plastic parts. Poor – quality guide components may lead to deviations in the mold’s movement during operation, thereby affecting the molding accuracy and quality of the plastic parts.
